Founder’s Biography

Allan Weilert is a native of Wichita, Kansas. He founded the Servants of Divine Mercy in 2001, with the approval of his spiritual director and pastor. Allan is grateful for the initial encouragement and support of Bishop Sam G. Jacobs of Houma-Thibodaux, Louisiana.Pope John Paul II promised to pray for the Servants of Divine Mercy when Allan met him in Rome, June 2002.

Formerly a Franciscan brother, Allan worked as Co-director of Healing Ministry of the Franciscan School of Evangelization in Southfield, Michigan. He trained hundreds of laity in the principles of healing prayer and has held healing services around the United States and abroad. In addition, he launched Catholics United for the Poor, a non-profit fundraising organization assisting urban ministries among the poor of Cincinnati, Ohio. Allan also designed and implemented a parish-based adult spirituality program, the Spiritual Life Center, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Galveston, Texas. Allan has personally experienced the adventure and mystery of suffering. In 1989, he contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome while brushing up on his Spanish in Guadalajara. After four months on a ventilator and five months in-patient rehabilitation in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston , Allan continued physical and occupational therapy on an out-patient basis. Two years later, he began walking again thanks to his expert therapists and chiropractor. Allan cringes at the word ”disabled,” since the Lord has taught him through this process that we are precious to the Lord not because of what we can accomplish for Him, but rather just because we are.
